Carolyn Lundquist

Carolyn Lundquist graduated with a BSc in Marine Biology (1993) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and obtained her PhD in Ecology (2000) at the University of California, Davis. She moved to New Zealand in 2000, and currently holds a joint position as Principal Scientist in Marine Ecology at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) in Hamilton and as Associate Professor at the Institute of Marine Science at the University of Auckland.

She is an applied marine ecologist, providing scientific and social-scientific input to inform decision-making for coastal and ocean management at local, national, regional and international scales. She has served since 2014 on the Science Leadership Team for the Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge (New Zealand national science investment of $71 million NZD over 10 years).

She has been a member of the IPBES Scenarios and Models of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Expert Group since 2014, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the expert group. She was a Coordinating Lead Author of the IPBES Methodological Assessment of Scenarios and Models (2016).
