Carlos Joly

Carlos Alfredo Joly graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo/USP (1976), obtained his MSc in Plant Biology at the State University of Campinas/UNICAMP (1979) and his PhD in Botany at the Univ. St. Andrews/UK (1982). Since 1998 he is full professor in Plant Ecology at the Department of Plant Biology, Biology Institute, State University of Campinas/UNICAMP, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses. From 2013 to 2018 was member of the IPBES Multidisciplinary Expert Panel/MEP, being involved in various assessments and with the Capacity Building Task Force. Currently he is the Chair of the BIOTA/FAPESP Program, Co-Chair of the Brazilian Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services/BPBES, Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research/IAI and fellow of the Brazilian Academy of Science.
